Vows That Wow — Valerie & Sean
Set against the scenic backdrop of the Savannah River, Valerie and Sean’s wedding at Thompson Savannah perfectly captured the essence of a destination celebration. With a timeless blue-and-white palette, lush floral designs, and thoughtful personal touches woven throughout the day, every detail reflected the couple’s vision of an elegant weekend centered around the people they love most.
A Destination Wedding Weekend in Savannah
Although many of their guests were traveling from out of town, Valerie and Sean intentionally chose Savannah as the place to gather everyone together. Rather than focusing on a single day, they created an entire wedding weekend experience, giving family and friends the opportunity to explore one of their favorite cities while celebrating alongside them.
One of the bride’s favorite memories came from those quiet moments before the celebration officially began.
“Our favorite wedding day memory was being able to spend so much time with our closest friends and family days before and after our wedding. Most people flew in the weekend before and we were able to spend the entire week with everyone in our favorite city. Savannah was such an amazing destination for our family and friends because most people had never been and they were able to turn our wedding weekend into an excuse for a vacation.
Sean and I took some time for ourselves the morning of. Since we had such an amazing wedding team, we were both able to go for a walk along the Savannah River and shared a quiet cup of coffee together before the craziness of the day.”
That peaceful riverfront stroll set the tone for a day that felt both relaxed and incredibly meaningful.
Modern Coastal Style at Thompson Savannah
The contemporary waterfront setting at Thompson Savannah provided the perfect canvas for the couple’s design vision. Soft blue linens, chinoiserie-inspired accents, white florals, and natural greenery complemented the hotel’s sophisticated architecture while embracing Savannah’s coastal charm.
Personal details made the celebration feel uniquely their own—from custom stationery to a beautifully hand-painted cake featuring their beloved dog. Every element felt intentional without sacrificing the effortless atmosphere they wanted guests to experience.
A Reception Designed for Gathering
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed an elegant reception beneath a sailcloth tent overlooking the river. Thoughtfully designed tablescapes paired textured blue glassware with classic gold chairs, delicate floral arrangements, and timeless place settings that elevated the waterfront setting without overpowering it.
Keeping guests comfortable and well cared for remained a priority throughout the evening, creating an environment where everyone could simply relax, celebrate, and enjoy being together.
Rehearsal Dinner by Cha Bella Catering
The wedding festivities began with a memorable rehearsal dinner catered by Cha Bella Catering, setting the tone for an unforgettable weekend in Savannah. Known for their fresh, locally inspired cuisine and warm hospitality, the Cha Bella team created a welcoming dining experience that brought family and friends together before the big day.
From beautifully prepared dishes to attentive service, every detail of the evening reflected the same level of care and quality that made guests feel right at home. It was the perfect way to kick off a weekend centered around great food, meaningful conversation, and celebrating with loved ones before Valerie and Sean said, “I do.”
A Dream Team That Brought Every Detail to Life
When asked which vendor had the greatest impact on the planning process, Valerie credited Sutlan + Co.
“Niki Blackwell from Sutlan + Co was the best. We started planning our wedding 11 months before the big day and there was never a moment where we felt like we were in the dark. We actually didn’t meet her in person until two days before the wedding! Her ability to take our vision and dream into a reality without ever meeting in person is a gift.”
The couple also loved incorporating Good Times Roll Photo Bus into the celebration.
“We’re big VW fans and it was one of the easiest contracts to sign. They were really easy to work with and our guests loved the photobus experience.”
